Aynı şehirde bile taşınmak yeterince zorken, farklı bir ülkeye, bambaşka bir coğrafyaya göç etmek hem fiziksel hem de mental bir yorgunluk demekmiş. Hayatımın bu yeni sayfasına, Dubai’ye tam da doğum günümde uçarak başladım.
Mübarek, biz gider gitmez havalar bir soğudu, beklenmedik yağmurlar başladı. Mart sonunda gelmek aslında Dubai’nin kavurucu sıcağına maruz kalmadan önce birkaç ay daha kazanmak demek; ama dürüst olmam gerekirse böyle bir havayı biz de beklemiyorduk. Yine de halimizden şikayetçi değiliz çünkü ev dizmekten daha zor bir şey varsa, o da bunu 40 derece sıcakta yapmaktır! Neyse ki burada her evde klima, yerleşik ve mecburi bir düzenin parçası.
Buraya taşınmamızdaki asıl motivasyon, kardeşlerimin lügat dağarcıklarına İngilizce ve Arapçayı en doğal yoldan ekleyebilmeleriydi. Bu süreçte annemle birlikte yoğun bir okul değerlendirme sürecine girdik. Hedef eğitim olunca, eve karar vermeden önce okulu netleştirmemiz tabiri caizse “farz” oldu. Uzun araştırmalar ve ziyaretler sonunda, Elhamdülillah gönlümüze göre bir okulu ve evimizi Jumeirah bölgesinde bulduk. Dubai’de Hayat: Perdenin Öteki Yüzü
Dubai’de hayat akışı genel olarak stabil görünse de dışarıdan fark edilmeyen detaylar var. Turist sayısındaki azalma, turizmden ciddi gelir elde eden bu ülke için imaj açısından kritik. Bu nedenle, zaten katı olan sosyal medya kuralları daha da sıkılaştırılmış durumda.
Özellikle bölgedeki askeri hareketlilikler, İHA’lar veya patlamalar hakkında paylaşım yapmak kesinlikle yasak; bunun sonu hapis cezasına kadar gidiyor. Dubai hakkında olumsuz içerik üretmemeniz genel bir tavsiye değil, adeta yazısız bir kural. Havalimanlarında yapılan basit çekimlerde bile uyarı alabiliyorsunuz.
Ama şu an tek sorun bu güvenlik önlemleri de değil, ciddi yağışlar nedeniyle Sharjah taraflarında su baskınları yaşandı. İnsan “Çölün ortasında nasıl su basabilir?” diye düşünmeden edemiyor, ama bir cevap bulamayınca “Rahmettir” deyip geçiyoruz.
Dubai’deki ilk haftanın ardından, kalan eşyalarımızı almak ve sağlık kontrollerimizi yaptırmak için kısa süreliğine Türkiye’ye döndük. Yurt dışındaki sağlık sektörünü görünce, insan devletimizin kıymetini bir kez daha anlıyor; Rabbim zeval vermesin.
Henüz her şey bizim için bir uyum sağlama ve kişisel hedeflerimize odaklanma sürecinden ibaret. Kardeşlerim için günlük özel müfredatlar oluşturdum ki eğitimden kopmasınlar. Bunların ne kadar işe yaradığını muhtemelen bir ay içinde göreceğiz.

A New Chapter in the Gulf
Moving within the same city is hard enough, but moving to a different country and a completely new region means both physical and mental exhaustion. I started this new chapter of my life by flying to Dubai exactly on my birthday.
Surprisingly, the weather got cold and unexpected rain started as soon as we arrived. Coming at the end of March actually means gaining a few more months before facing Dubai’s burning heat. To be honest, we didn’t expect this kind of weather either. Still, we are not complaining because if there is anything harder than furnishing a house, it is doing it in 40 degree heat! Fortunately, having an air conditioner in every house is a standard and necessary part of life here.
Our main motivation for moving here was for my younger siblings to learn English and Arabic in the most natural way. During this time, my mother and I went through an intense school search. Since education is the main goal, it was absolutely necessary for us to choose the school before deciding on a house. After long research and visits, thankfully, we found a school and a house that we loved in the Jumeirah area. If you want, I can explain the details of our school selection process in another post.
Life in Dubai: Behind the Scenes
Even though the flow of life in Dubai generally looks stable, there are details you can’t see from the outside. A decrease in the number of tourists is critical for the image of this country, which earns a lot from tourism. Because of this, the already strict social media rules have become even tighter.
Sharing posts about military activities, drones, or explosions in the region is strictly forbidden, this can even lead to prison. Not creating negative content about Dubai is not just general advice, it is almost an unwritten rule. You can even get a warning for taking simple videos at the airports.
But these security measures are not the only issue right now. There were floods in the Sharjah area because of heavy rain. You can’t help but think, “How can it flood in the middle of the desert?” But when we can’t find an answer, we just say “It’s a Rahmet from Allah” and move on.
After our first week in Dubai, we returned to Turkiye for a short time to get our remaining belongings and have our health checks. Seeing the healthcare system abroad makes you appreciate our country’s system once again; may God protect it.
For now, everything is just about adapting and focusing on our personal goals. I created special daily study plans for my siblings so they don’t fall behind in their education. We will probably see how well these work in about a month.
